Practice Areas
Advocacy, advice and defense for government regulation, enforcement or prosecution matters.
Our diverse and extensive experience allows us to advise, advocate and defend across a range of practice areas, clients and geographies. Our five main practice areas all reflect our clients’ need for discreet, partner-level attention. Our sole objective in all of our work is Justice for Our Clients.
Business Advisory
We provide front-end risk management and compliance advice for sales and trading desks at global banks, investment advisors and other financial institutions. Our work in this area involves assessing and remediating risks that may arise for U.S. and non-U.S. businesses. We also assess the risk of enforcement under U.S. sanctions and export control laws for companies to assist companies engaged in global trade navigate U.S. national security concerns.
Regulatory Investigations + Enforcement
We represent clients in high-profile civil regulatory investigations and litigation brought by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), New York Attorney General and New York Department of Financial Services, among others. We also assist companies facing enforcement of economic sanctions and export control laws by the U.S. Departments of Treasury (OFAC) and Commerce (BIS). Our work in this area includes advocating for regulated clients in regulatory exams.
Internal Investigations
We represent independent directors and special committees in conducting highly sensitive investigations arising from allegations of misconduct by senior managers, financial fraud and money laundering. Our model allows us to manage matters with multiple stakeholders without the risk that conflicts or prior engagements will compromise our judgment or advice.
White-Collar Criminal Matters
We represent officers, directors, senior managers and company founders in federal and state criminal matters. Our work includes high-profile “press” cases brought by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) as well as more routine matters including those pursued by state and local prosecutors. In this work, we draw on our prior service as federal and state prosecutors including Bill’s time as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York, and Wade’s roles as a DOJ prosecutor in the Criminal and National Security Divisions.
Monitorships
We work locally and globally as independent monitors or counsel to monitors. Our work has included serving as an integrity monitor in emergency funding programs related to Hurricane Sandy and acting as a World Bank Group-appointed monitor for multiple Asian companies, including PRC State-Owned Enterprises. We also advise municipal governments on strategies for mitigating fraud, waste and abuse in managing federal relief fund programs.
